Geochemist Millicent Schmidt from the State University of New York at Stony Brook came to the GSECARS beamlines at the APS to study the potential underlying causes for an unusual increased incidence of pulmonary disease in U.S. soldiers returning from military service in the Middle East and Afghanistan.
