Emergency Stop and Door Disable Buttons

It is APS policy that no one is to be inside a beamline station with all the doors closed at any time!

However, if somehow a person is accidently locked in a station, every experiment station has at least one EMERGENCY BEAM STOP button (or "Crash" button) inside it. If someone becomes locked inside a station at any time, they can push this button. It will prevent beam from entering the station.

Each hutch has at least one Emergency Door Control box which should be used in an emergency situation to open the hutch doors. Should anyone be trapped in a hutch for any reason, they should use this to open the doors.

The Emergency Door Control typically has two buttons. They can either be labeled DOOR OPEN and DOOR DISABLE, or AUTO OPEN and MANUAL OPEN.

For controls labeled DOOR OPEN and DOOR DISABLE, to open an automatic door, press the emergency DOOR OPEN or AUTO OPEN button. Automatic doors should slide open; if they do not open, press the DOOR DISABLE button to dissipate air pressure on the pneumatic closing system and push the door open. The air pressure may take approximately 30 seconds to dissipate. Stations with only manual doors have a single DOOR DISABLE or RELEASE button inside. To open a manual door, release the manual slide bolt inside the door (if the door is equipped with one), press the DOOR DISABLE or RELEASE button, and push the door open after the magnetic locking system is de-energized.

For controls labeled AUTO OPEN and MANUAL OPEN, the Auto Open button will open the door with the hydraulic system when pushed. Should the hydraulic system fail, however, the manual open button can be pressed and the manual door can be opened by hand.
