Establish a User Account

User accounts cover expenses such as supplies, services, and proprietary beam time charges. Establishing a user account is a procurement process; please allow sufficient time.
For Supplies and Services

If you will need supplies and services, such as specialty gases or electrical work, you will need a nonproprietary user account. A purchase order from your home institution will be required to establish the user account. Advance payment in U.S. dollars may be required for capital equipment purchases and construction work.

  1. Contact the APS User Account Specialist (see below) to begin the process.
    • Specify your needs, time frame, and source of funds.
    • Provide an account contact for further correspondence about the purchase order.
  2. For details, refer your procurement representative to the APS Policy and Procedures for Establishing and Maintaining a Nonproprietary APS User Accounts.

For Proprietary Beam Time

If you wish to make a proprietary claim on data obtained at the APS, you will need a proprietary user account. This account is used to pay for beam time, though it can be set up to cover supplies and services as well. A purchase order from your home institution and advance payment will be required to establish the user account. Beam time is charged in one-hour increments.

  1. To begin the process, contact the APS User Account Specialist (see below).
    • Specify your needs and time frame.
    • Provide an account contact for further correspondence about the purchase order.
  2. For details, refer your procurement representative to the APS Policy and Procedures for Establishing and Maintaining Proprietary APS User Accounts.
  3. For details on how the time to be charged is determined, consult the APS Policy and Procedures for Identification of Proprietary Beam Time.
