These components are required to define the line of sight to the source point and to only allow a well defined cone of the beam to pass through. The collimator body absorbs portions of the beam outside the predefined cone and any other scattered x-rays as well as the bremsstrahlung radiation.

There are no alarm signals generated for the collimators.
