Science Workshops for the APS-U: 2018/2019/2020

As the APS Upgrade project moves forward, we would like to reach out wider scientific communities and their leaders, get them involved with beamline upgrade projects, and motivate them to prepare for more challenging experiments. Hence, APS-U plans to organize a series of scientific workshops in 2018-2020. The motivation for holding these “science-oriented” workshops is to recognize the new discoveries and identify the emerging topics in physics, chemistry, materials science and materials synthesis and industrial processes.

We aim to relate and link these developments to advanced x-ray scattering, spectroscopy and imaging methods. This should then trigger a series of actions regarding methodology development, new x-ray optics and new detection schemes, and motivate computational code developments, commensurate with the needs of these emerging fields.

Each workshop will bring leaders in their fields presenting invited and contributed talks, followed by an extensive discussion and report writing.
