Curt Preissner has been a mechanical engineer at the APS since 2001, where he started as a PhD student. He earned his PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009. Curt’s educational background is in vibrations and dynamics and he has worked on a variety of high-precision instrumentation projects at the APS. Along with the Synchrotron X-ray Enhanced STM, these include the Hard X-ray Nanoprobe, monochromators, and beamline automation. His main area of interest is developing new X-ray nanopositioning systems and controls. He is the PI on DOE STTR Phase II grant in collaboration with Royston Engineering Research titled A New Paradigm for X-ray Optics Nanopositioning.
