Ahmet Alatas recieved his B.Sc. degree in Physics from Instanbul University, Turkey and Ph.D. degree in Physics from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL.
After my postdoctoral appoinment at APS, I joined to X-ray Science Division at the same facility in 2005 where I have focused on developing x-ray technique and instrumentation for probing collective excitations in materials. In the past, I have integrated a laser-heated levitation system at 3ID-C, first HERIX spectrometer at the APS, for high-temperature studies. it has been successfully applied for high melting temperature materials (Al2O3, B, Si).
In the last few years, I have focused on extending momentum resolved IXS experimental capabilities to extreme conditions, high pressure and high temperature (HP-HT) inside diamond-anvil-cell (DAC) by implementing toroidal and KB mirror system in tandem.
