Dynamics and Structure Group
Sector 8-ID

Welcome to sector 8-ID of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) located at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). Sector 8-ID is operated by the Dynamics and Structure Group, which is part of the APS X-Ray Science Division (XSD). Sector 8-ID has 2 experimental stations enclosures---8-ID-E and 8-ID-I---currently being commissioned (2024-3) as part of the APS-Upgrade. We are eager to resume User science collaborations at our new feature beamline at 8-ID-E,I (XPCS).

APS beamline station 8-ID-I is dedicated to the study of equilibrium fluctuations and fluctuations about the evolution to equilibrium in condensed matter in the small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) geometry via x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) or x-ray intensity fluctuation spectroscopy (XIFS). APS beamline station 8-ID-E hosts programs to measure equilibrium dynamics via XPCS at large wave vector transfers.

The program in nanoscale structure and kinetics (GISAXS/GIWAXS instrument) formerly located at 8-ID-E has moved to the new beamline 9-ID-D (CSSI/GIXS/GI-XPCS).
