Jan Philipp Meyburg is a graduate student in chemistry at the University of Duisburg–Essen. He joins the SXSPM project for an internship in July and August 2013. His visit is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service and through the Division of Scientific User Facilities, Office of Basic Energy Sciences of the U.S. Department of Energy through Grant SC70705. In his graduate thesis Jan focuses on temperature programmed desorption to characterize the surfaces of polycrystalline metal films of chemoelectronic nanodiodes. Following his undergraduate degree, he worked as research assistant at the institute of physical chemistry at the University of Duisburg–Essen. He has experimental experience in ultra-high vacuum techniques and sample preparation using electron beam physical vapor deposition and electrochemical and thermal oxidation. In cooperation with the University of Bonn he developed an electrochemical potential pulse method to investigate the kinetics of surface reactions at polycrystalline platinum electrodes. At Argonne National Laboratory Jan will study metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structures by means of synchrotron x-ray STM. |
