Training next-generation scientists at NX School

The twelfth annual National Neutron and X-ray Scattering School took place from August 10-24, 2013 at Argonne and Oak Ridge National Labs. This school provided graduate students with a comprehensive education on the potential uses of the neutron and x-ray facilities in the United States. Lectures, presented by researchers from academia, industry, and national laboratories, included basic tutorials on the principles of scattering theory and the characteristics of neutron and synchrotron radiation sources, as well as specialized talks on the application of specific techniques to a variety of scientific disciplines. As part of the school, students had a chance to receive hands-on experience in using synchrotron x-ray scanning tunneling microscopy (SX-STM) for the study of nanoscale materials.
