Synchrotron x-ray scanning tunneling microscopy will soon also be developed at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS-II) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). In order to establish collaboration between the two National Laboratories, Drs. Evgeny Nazaretski and Hui Yan from BNL visited Argonne to learn more about recent progress made in the SXSPM project. During the 2-day visit the teams discussed mutual scientific goals and strategies to achieve them.

NSLS-II will be a new state-of-the-art, medium-energy electron storage ring at BNL designed to deliver high intensity and brightness. Construction of the NSLS-II's ring building began in March 2009. The new facility will begin operating in 2014.
