Dear All, I'm pleased to announce that APS Upgrade Project Director Stuart Henderson and PSC Deputy Director for Operations George Srajer have officially moved into their new roles, which started June 2. This reorganization will prepare the APS for the exciting yet challenging times ahead. In the near-term we will bring online new beamline capabilities and expand user access through improved efficiencies and programs such as mail-in service. The creation of a deputy director for operations position to oversee the PSC Accelerator Systems and Engineering Support Divisions will allow us to look for opportunities for improved collaboration, communication and efficiencies. Our goal is to provide the highest quality, and the timeliest service to the beamline staff and users as possible while lessening the effect of fluctuations in funding to the APS operations. As part of this new role, George also will work closely with the scientific community to develop the science case and optimize beamline capabilities to best take advantage of the expanded capabilities the APS Upgrade will provide. Stuart will help guide us quickly and efficiently toward this new future where the APS becomes the nation's first fourth-generation synchrotron and the brightest source of hard X-rays. Henderson's experience overseeing the development of large accelerator-based projects will add depth to our already outstanding Upgrade team as it continues to develop the multi-bend achromat lattice and beamlines concept, and prepares for the next phase in the Upgrade Project. Please join me in welcoming Stuart and George to their new roles and I hope you will enjoy working with them as much as I have as they have prepared for these transitions.
