Derrick Mancini has been appointed Deputy Associate Laboratory Director for Facility Development within Photon Sciences (PSC). Mancini’s primary responsibility will be as Project Director for the APS Upgrade, which has just received Critical Decision-0 confirmation of mission need from the U.S. Department of Energy. He will serve as a member of the PSC senior management team where he will work with other PSC senior management to steer the APS during the Upgrade. Mancini will lead the APS Upgrade team, with Geoff Pile (ASD) maintaining his role as the Project Manager. I am confident that the team will deliver great success, continuing to rely on help and assistance from many people at APS, Argonne, and our user community. Mancini began his career at Argonne at the APS and played a leading role in the development of the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM), serving very successfully as the Project Manager during the construction phase of CNM. During CNM operations, he was the Associate Division Director for Facilities and Technology, and the Nanofabrication Group Leader. He also served as Acting Division Director for the CNM last year. Mancini begins his new position immediately, although he will continue to work with CNM during the next few months to facilitate the transition. |
