Our science and technology leadership relies heavily on computing and our researchers make use of a full spectrum of machines from small local clusters to mid-range high performance computing (HPC) in the Laboratory Computing Resource Center (LCRC), and ultimately the high-performance hybrid machines (CPU/GPU) such as POLARIS and Aurora. These latter machines are revolutionizing research reliant on large scale simulations, big-data analysis and analytics, or machine learning to train increasingly complex and large models. Have you considered how your research will be impacted by advanced high performance computing?

Argonne is developing an institutional computing strategy that aims to provide a world class computing ecosystem with capabilities for all Argonne research staff.

Join Kirsten Laurin-Kovitz, Associate Laboratory Director for Nuclear Technologies and National Security, and Laurent Chapon, Associate Laboratory Director for Photon Sciences, for upcoming hybrid Institutional Computing town hall meetings in June:

  1. Monday, June 5 from 1 pm to 2 pm. Building 402, lower gallery. Or join on Zoom
  2. Monday, June 12 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Building 240 TCS, Room 1501. Or join on Zoom

All interested members of the Argonne community are invited to attend and are asked to register online. Lunch will be provided for those attending in person and will be served 30 minutes prior to each session.

  • Register to attend June 5 here (extended deadline to register for lunch is Wednesday, May 31)
  • Register to attend June 12 here (deadline to register for lunch is Tuesday, June 6)

During the town halls we will present a draft outline of the strategy, discuss Argonne’s Institutional Computing resources and present case studies that demonstrate the value advanced high-performance computing may have to your research and your sponsors. Q&A will follow. To prepare for the town hall, we recommend reviewing the resource links below.

These town halls and subsequent conversations will help establish a five-year institutional computing strategy with investment designed to create a world class computing capability for all Argonne research staff.
