Abstract:

The DOE Joint Genome Institute (JGI) relies on a spectrum of computing resources, from laptop to supercomputer, to meet our mission. As the data volumes we produce have increased, JGI has shifted from one location for computing and storage to several. In this talk I will discuss the design and implementation of geographically distributed data and computing services that are centralized for the staff and user community. Time permitting, I will also show the benefits of centralized data/metadata management in the design and execution of the JGI Data Portal, a new User resource.
