TITLE: Assembly and Interactions at Fluid Interfaces
ABSTRACT: Fluid interfaces are intriguing sites for materials assembly because of their high energy and the fact that they are open to the adjacent fluid phases. This allows materials to be delivered from the bulk to accumulate in the interfacial region. We have been studying a number of different interfaces as sites to assemble different functional materials or to understand the role of fluid interfaces in transport in multiphase systems. In this talk, I cover several examples in which there are important open questions in terms of the structure of molecules in the vicinity of the interface. I hope to promote discussion of systems in which we can design experiments at the APS to address interfacial structure.
