antelope on Solaris 9

I had some difficulty compiling R3.14.7 on Solaris 9 with 
SunStudio 9.  Initially, I needed to install the readline 
package which isn't in the base OS.  But then, 
src/toolsComm/antelope wouldn't build.  To get it to build I 
had to change a line in 
base-3.14.7/configure/os/CONFIG.Common.solaris-sparc.  I 
appended   -lcurses   to the line COMPILER_LDFLAGS += -mt .

Is this a build issue that others have had on Solaris 9, or 
did I miss the more elegant solution?
