PV-WAVE and Channel Access

Thanks to everyone who answered my recent questions about 'pvwave'.

I was a little surprised that no one appears to be using the
Channel Access interface to PV-WAVE. Everyone who replied was
using IDL.

For general information, I found that the shared object, "CaWave.so",
built from the latest 'pvwave' (which Janet Anderson kindly sent me),
builds with no errors. I am using Solaris 2.5 with the SUN Pro 'C' compiler
version 4.0.

After experimenting with PV-WAVE version 6.01, I found the following
procedure got things working:

WAVE> .rnew CaWave
WAVE> result = linknload('./CaWave.so', 'caInit')

The last step: "result = linknload('./CaWave.so', 'caInit')" is not
in the current "CaWave User's Guide", but appears to be vital.
