Yes, I would find such a syntax useful. It could, for example, be used by
a channel access client to sample elements from a list of items installed
in an instrument (such as filters on a filter wheel), or it could be used
to step through a lookup table contained in an EPICS database. 

If it is possible, I would like to see string arrays handled as well as
numerical arrays.
