Getting support for as many platforms as possible is an important aspect of
the operating system. I don't think it would be prudent to limit ourselves
to the x86. Although, it would be nice to have the 486 as an option. Hopefully,
version 4 of channel access will make it easier to support most of the
endian and floating point architectures.
