Old LicensesEPICS Base is publicly available under an open source license, as described in the license section of this website. For many years after EPICS was first created the distribution was subject to a legal collaboration agreement administered by Los Alamos National Laboratory, which had to be signed by all laboratories wishing to use it. Versions of EPICS Base between 3.13.7 and 3.14.4 could be distributed only to approved signatories of the EPICS Base license, in order to meet the requirements of the EAR99 classification which EPICS had been given by the US Department of Commerce some years before. In February 2004 after much work investigating the EAR99 rules, we were given permission to open EPICS Base to a public download, without any restrictions. Original CopyrightCopyright of most of the EPICS Base software and many of the extensions and device support modules is owned by the Universities of Chicago and California. Versions of EPICS Base before R3.13.7 and R3.14.beta2 contained the Copyright notice below.
