Grant of License

In order for us to include any software from outside Argonne into EPICS, our lawyers require us to get written legal permission to do so from the organization that paid for the development of that software. That permission usually takes the form of a signed Grant of License (Grant), the standard text of which is given below. Recent versions of this Grant are written to cover constributions to EPICS Base and any related products, so we should only need to have the form signed once by each organization.

If we have asked you to arrange for a Grant to be signed, you will have to find someone who will be legally entitled to do so for your organization. Fill in the form below and press the Generate button, then print out the resulting page and have them sign and date it, then fax it to us.

Grant of License in EPICS Contributions Employees or work-for-hire contractors of the undersigned licensor (Licensor) have created and delivered for use by the UChicago Argonne, LLC as Operator of Argonne National Laboratory (Licensee), bug fixes, patches, or upgrades to the features, functionality or performance (Contributions) of EPICS Base (EPICS) and EPICS related products available via an Open Source License. For good and valuable consideration, for which receipt is hereby acknowledged, Licensor hereby grants to Licensee a non-exclusive, royalty-free perpetual license to install, use, copy, modify, display, perform, prepare derivative works, incorporate into EPICS or any other computer software, distribute, and sublicense Contributions or derivative works thereof, in binary and source code form (if any), whether developed by Licensee or third parties, without accounting for benefits derived therefrom. If at any time in the future Licensor chooses to deliver to Licensee, or chooses to otherwise publish or distribute enhancements ("Future Enhancements") to EPICS in source code form, without contemporaneously requiring Licensee or end users of EPICS to enter into a separate written license agreement for Future Enhancements, then Licensor hereby grants to Licensee a nonexclusive, royalty-free license of the same scope in such Future Enhancements. The Licensor grants this license WITHOUT warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose or any other warranty, expressed or implied. Licensor warrants that it has or has obtained any and all required permissions and authority to enter into this Agreement.
