Beamline 4-ID-D

Beamline 4-ID-D is operated by the Magnetic Materials Group in the X-ray Science Division (XSD) of the Advanced Photon Source.

It's primary research focus is on magnetic spectroscopy measurements at energies between 2.5 and 30 keV.

  • X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.
  • Magnetic x-ray scattering.
  • X-ray magnetic reflectivity studies.

How Magnetic Dimers Interact to Create Long-Range Order

October 9, 2014

Researchers working at beamlines 4-ID-D and 6-ID-B have shed new light on how magnetic long-range order forms and remains stable despite the presence of disruptive quantum fluctuations, results that may provide insights that have eluded thorough understanding for nearly 30 years.
