CAT Chat Minutes

November 17, 2008

Operations, Mark Beno

Beno announced that there had been one machine drop this week due to a power supply problem that lasted for 1.11 hours. 34ID was down for 75 minutes with a security problem and 30ID was down for 105 minutes due to a door problem. The Percentage of Scheduled Beamtime was 98.23%, and the Mean Time Between Faults was 76.71 hours.

Safety, Edmund Chang

Chang mentioned that someone from the DOE will be here on Tuesday, November 18th. The purpose of the visit is to see if we are keeping the environment in mind in accordance with the National Environmental Protection Act.

Cyber Security, Ken Sidorowicz

Sidorowicz informed everyone that the DOE is about to do an assessment of our Cyber Security. They are initially going to do an external assessment where they could possibly send e-mails with attachments that would attack our system upon opening. They will likely also send a team here that will attempt various cyber attacks. Tips on defending against a cyber attack will appear in Argonne Today through the end of the week.

Training, Bruce Glagola

Glagola thanked everyone for their attention to training. The incomplete training is down to 1 ½ %. He also discussed dry ice and mentioned that the APS is considering having small amounts of dry ice produced here. Currently, if a user is in need of dry ice, they should go to the BTS website and enter a work request. They do require at least a one-day notice.
