CAT Chat Minutes

August 28, 2006

Announcements/Schedule Update, Mark Beno

Beno announced that the run statistics from last week are at 97.3% of beam availability with a mean time of 74 hours between faults. This should be close to the final run statistics and close to the final run stats from the past two years.

Beno also said that the draft schedule that was introduced at last week's CAT Chat was approved and will be posted on the web within the next few days. He noted that the first three weeks in October will be in reduced horizontal beamsize lattice (RHB) mode.

Safety, Edmund Chang

Chang informed the group that the inspection of Building 434 has been completed. He complimented the occupants of 434 for doing a good job. An inspection of sector 17 in Building 435 will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, August 29, 2006.

Chang also announced that there was an injury reported today. A technician lifted a 90-pound component and turned to place it down. The technician then felt extreme pain in his back. The JHQ prohibits anyone from lifting anything over 51 pounds unless a lifting device is used or another individual is called upon to assist. Chang reminded the group of this and to use caution in the future.

Chang informed the group that there is a Work Plan Assessment planned to begin on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at 9:00 am. Jim Lang will be taking care of this. The PFS validation team will be looking at work in progress, and they may be asking questions. Chang reminded all to review ISM prior to the assessment. Contact Chang for ISM cards if needed.

Low Temp Hot Water Repair, Glenn Kailus

Kailus announced that the Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) will be shut down on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, starting at 7:00 am. This is required to replace a leaking gasket on the high pressure steam line in building 450. While this work should only take one whole day, there is a possibility that it could take longer. If the leaking of water from the pipes causes problems, call the Floor Coordinator at 2-0101.

XSD Scientific Software Workshop, Pete Jemian

Jemian announced that the XSD Scientific Software Workshop will begin on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at 9:00 am in Building 401, Room A1100. He stated that the purpose of this workshop is to determine the fundamental needs and opportunities in scientific software systems for x-ray data reduction, analysis, modeling and simulation. The results of the workshop will help formulate a software program. Jemian reminded the group that the agenda for the workshop is on the web.

Next Meeting

With the beam down until the beginning of October, the next CAT Chat Meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 2, 2006.
