APS Operational Status Update

From Tuesday through early this morning, we have had continuous operation for 65 hours without a single fault. The only downtime has been the refills, which take about 7 mins. An rf crowbar occurred this morning, which ended this record breaking period. For the whole run, we are operating at about 95% availability.

We have given back June 2 and June 9 to User Operations. The next scheduled Shielding Verification shift is on June 16, 1998.

There were some problems with storage ring orbit this morning. The program that adjusts the offset compensation for the rf BPMs failed. The program had to be restarted.

We had three computers successfully "attacked" from outside the lab. These invasions were discovered and taken care of by ANL computer security. It is very important that you install any security patches to prevent this ASAP. There will be a meeting next Friday, June 5, 1998, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss these issues, as well as network compatibility topics.

We have a hoisting and rigging inspection of all the CATs on Wednesday June 3, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. The CATs appear to be in good shape, but please do a self assessment of your equipment. If you need help, please contact your FC. This is a routine inspection.

We have a dress code that is discussed in orientation. Sandals are not acceptable, shorts are not advisable; for ladies, dresses are not advisable, unless a lab coat is worn. Please do not compromise safety, we ask you to exercise good judgment on this issue.

All employees and APS users at ANL are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with Laboratory policies. Actions such as display of sexually oriented material in the workplace using any media is forbidden at the Laboratory and, if discovered, can lead to serious disciplinary action. All employees and APS users must not participate in such conduct and should deter such activities from happening at the Laboratory.

Good Luck and Good Bye !!
