CAT Chat Minutes

September 5, 1997

Issues that require action and/or follow-up
1. What can be done about the mosquito (especially around Sector 8) and cricket problem on the floor?

We will contact an exterminator for this problem.

2. Who sets up the Mutual CAT Safety Oversight Group meeting for Group 3?

We will be contacting all the parties involved in this meeting. G. Shenoy will then schedule this meeting.

3. What is the status of the Card Key system?

Technically, we are ready. The User Office is just waiting for management approval. When the turn-on date is determined, the User Office will send out a letter to all card-key recipients that entail the instructions on how to use the system. All outside doors will be locked at this time.

Information/Follow-up Items
APS Operational Status Update:  User operations has been going well. We do have a problem with a linac magnet, which has reduced the efficiency of injection into the storage ring. In order to reduce the number of injections, we will attempt to let the beam decay to lower currents while monitoring beam stability. We will go down to 50 mA for this weekend. Next week would like to even go lower (between 40 to 50 mA). During the next two ASD Studies periods, attempts will be made to do a partial repair that may improve injection efficiency. Replacement of the magnet will take two days and is planned for the shutdown following this run cycle.

Other:  During the ASD Studies period on Monday, an access will be made into all of the accelerators to check the equipment status.

Attention all undulator beamline users: When you're going to be away from the beamline for 6 hours or more without using the undulator beam, please fully open up the gap of the undulator.
