Beamline 18-ID-D: Sector 18 - Insertion Device Beamline

BIO-CAT
Life Sciences

Description

The Biophysics Collaborative Access Team is an NIH-supported research center for the study of the structure and dynamics of partially ordered biological systems. Solution scattering experiments, which provide data about macromolecular conformation in solution, can be done in static or time-resolved modes with millisecond-scale time resolution. Fiber diffraction patterns of exceptional quality can be obtained from complex, weakly diffracting biological systems in very short exposure times. The beamline has independent horizontal and vertical focusing and houses two independent monochromators. Source demagnification of up to 11:1 vertically and 7:1 horizontally can be attained. Micro-diffraction is possible either with a K-B mirror system (~ 5 x 5 micron minimum beamsize) or a compound refractive lens 9~4 x 20 micron minimum beam size)
